Performance of Weaner Cattle given Molasses and Supplements under Feedlot and Grazing Conditions

چکیده
A series of feeding experiments were undertaken with weaner cattle to assess the effects on liveweight performance of supplementing a basal diet of molasses, urea and roughage with various protein and energy supplements. The supplements included extruded soyabeans, a mixture of extruded soyabean and crushed maize grain, or soyabean and crushed maize extruded together. These experiments indicate there was no beneficial effect on liveweight performance of including maize in an extruded whole soyabean supplement given to cattle consuming a molasses/roughage based diet either under feedlot or grazing conditions.

Ruminal escape protein supplementation and zeranol implantation effects on performance of steers grazing winter annuals.
Fifty-four crossbred steers (275 kg) were assigned randomly to one of three isoenergetic but not isonitrogenous ruminal escape protein (EP) supplements: high ruminal escape protein (HEP), low ruminal escape protein (LEP), or corn. The supplements contained corn, distillers' dried grains with solubles (DDGS), and fish meal. Supplements were fed at approximately 1.5 kg/d; the HEP and LEP suppleme...

Two feedlot cattle growth performance trials and a metabolism trial were conducted to evaluate the feeding value of cane molasses (CM) compared with wood sugar concentrate (WSC). The CM contained (as-fed basis) 73% DM, 8.6% ash, 48% total sugars, and 79.5 degrees Brix. The WSC contained (as-fed basis) 61% DM, 12.2% ash, 38.9% total sugars, and 29% lignosulfonate. When supplemented at 4% of diet...

Microspheres consisting of a central core of amino acid and binding agents which are coated with a pH sensitive (neutral stable/acid unstable) polymer have been developed by Rhone Poulenc. This new technology allows orally administered amino acids to avoid exposure to and degradation by, rumen microbes but allows bio-availability following release and absorption at the abomasum and distal gut s...
متن کاملEconomics and Performance of Northeastern Nevada Feeder Cattle Feedlot Phase
Adding value to feeder cattle through feedlot retained ownership is a marketing alternative most producers often overlook. Universities, private consultants, cattle buyers and feedlot owners/managers have flooded the cattle industry with information pertaining to retained ownership. Yet producers are reluctant to view this as a marketing alternative. Most of this reluctance is due to a lack of ...
متن کاملMolasses as an energy source for cattle.
Molasses has been used as a major energy component of feedlot diets for about 15 years (Preston et al. 1967). Over the last 5 years of drought conditions molasses has been extensively fed to cattle in large areas of north-east Australia applying the principles for its use advocated by Preston and his colleagues (see Preston & Willis 1974). A prerequisite of drought feeding is for low labour cos...
